Samsung has initiated a beta rollout of new wellness-centric functionalities for its Galaxy Watch 2025, as part of the One UI 8 Watch software update. The pilot program is currently live for selected users in the United States and South Korea.
The update includes Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load monitoring, a smart Running Coach, and an industry-first Antioxidant Index, all designed to help users build sustainable wellness routines.
Samsung’s Bedtime Guidance evaluates three days of sleep data to suggest ideal sleep times, using indicators like sleep pressure and circadian rhythms. This feature aims to help users maintain consistent sleep schedules and complements Samsung’s existing sleep tracking capabilities, which include environment optimization and sleep apnea detection. Android 11 and Samsung Health version 6.30.2 or later are required.
A new metric, Vascular Load, has been added to provide insights into the strain placed on the cardiovascular system. By monitoring this load, users can understand their body's recovery ability and make adjustments to their activity or stress levels accordingly.
The updated Running Coach assesses fitness by analyzing a 12-minute run and scoring performance on a 1 to 10 scale. Based on the result, the system builds custom training plans for distances ranging from 5K to marathon. Available on the Galaxy Watch7 Series and later, the tool is designed to support performance growth without risking overexertion.
Samsung has introduced an Antioxidant Index that measures carotenoid levels in the skin, offering an indication of oxidative stress and nutritional balance. Users can measure these levels by placing a thumb on the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s sensor for five seconds. Several lifestyle factors like poor diet, stress, and lack of sleep may affect antioxidant levels, making this metric a useful tool for preventive wellness.
Dr. Hon Pak, head of Samsung’s Digital Health Team, emphasized that the initiative promotes proactive health management by providing actionable feedback. These tools are aimed at encouraging consistent, incremental improvements in sleep, fitness, and nutrition.
Samsung’s expanded health toolkit positions the Galaxy Watch 2025 as more than a smartwatch — it acts as a personal wellness assistant, supporting users in cultivating healthier lifestyles through real-time data and personalized insights.
